Heartwood Academy serves students whose learning profiles benefit from a personalized, structured, and intentionally designed educational environment. Our students are capable, curious, and engaged learners who thrive when instruction aligns with how they process information, develop skills, and experience the world.
Many Heartwood students have ADHD, autism (Levels 1–2), dyslexia, or related learning differences. Others enroll because they benefit from smaller class sizes, clear expectations, and thoughtful pacing. While their profiles vary, our students share a common need: an environment that provides both support and challenge in balance.

Families often choose Heartwood when their child is capable but not fully supported in traditional school settings, and when they are seeking both academic growth and increased independence.
When Heartwood May Not Be the Best Fit
Heartwood is a specialized, supportive academic program, but it is not designed to meet every educational or therapeutic need.
Heartwood may not be the best fit for students who:

Require intensive behavioral or therapeutic intervention throughout the school day

Need one-to-one adult support across most settings

Are not yet ready to participate in small-group academic instruction

Require a primarily life-skills or functional curriculum

Need crisis stabilization or clinical treatment services within school

Thrive in highly unstructured or self-directed learning environments
Our goal is always to ensure alignment between a student’s needs and what Heartwood is designed to provide. When the fit is right, students are able to engage, build skills, and grow in confidence and independence.
We work collaboratively with families during the admissions process to determine whether Heartwood’s environment and approach align with a student’s learning profile and goals.
