Announcing Our New Name: Heartwood Academy
The name Heartwood comes from the strongest inner core of a tree. Heartwood is the part that provides structural strength, stability, and endurance over time. It forms slowly through years of growth, becoming the foundation that allows the tree to stand firm and continue reaching outward. This meaning reflects the purpose of our school.At Heartwood Academy, we focus on developing the enduring foundations within each student—academic, social, executive, and life skills that support independence and meaningful engagement with the world. Like heartwood itself, these capacities grow gradually through support, structure, and experience, becoming strengths that last a lifetime.
Why Heartwood
We are excited to share an important step in the growth of our school community: Magnolia Learning Academy is becoming Heartwood Academy. Since our founding, the name Magnolia has represented beauty, growth, and Southern roots—values that will always remain part of our story. We continue to hold deep appreciation for the Magnolia identity and what it has meant to our students, families, and founding vision. As our program has developed, however, we have increasingly encountered confusion with other schools and organizations using the Magnolia name. To provide clarity for families and to establish a distinct identity that fully reflects our mission, we have chosen to move forward under a new name.This change is not a shift in who we are—it is a clearer expression of who we have become.
Our Logo and Symbol
Our Heartwood symbol draws from two ideas: the inner core and the protective form. The mark combines the concept of heartwood—the tree’s strongest center—with the enduring shape of a horseshoe, long associated with protection, strength, and the journey forward.Together, these elements represent what we seek to cultivate in every student: resilience, stability, growth, and the confidence to move forward with strength.
Continuity of Mission
While our name is evolving, our mission remains unchanged. Heartwood Academy continues the work begun as Magnolia Learning Academy: providing individualized, evidence-informed education designed to build a strong foundation for life.Our approach, leadership, and commitment to students and families remain the same. This transition simply allows our name and identity to more fully reflect the depth of our philosophy and the distinctiveness of our program.
We are grateful to our families and community for growing with us through this next chapter. We look forward to continuing our shared work—now as Heartwood Academy.
